Flare Journal - Privacy Policy

Summary

All your data stays on your device. The developer has no access to it. Period.

Data Collection

Flare Journal does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. Specifically:

• No analytics or tracking of any kind
• No advertising or ad identifiers
• No user accounts or registration
• No server-side data storage
• No third-party SDKs that collect data
• No crash reporting services
• No cloud sync or cloud storage

Data Storage

All data you enter into Flare Journal is stored exclusively on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework with NSFileProtectionComplete encryption. Your data is never uploaded to any server, cloud service, or external system.

The developer cannot access, read, or retrieve your data under any circumstances.

Health Data Collected

Flare Journal processes the following health-related information entirely on your device:

• Disease activity scores — computed from your daily symptom entries using published clinical scoring indices (e.g. HBI, CDAI, BASDAI, RAPID3)
• Symptom logs — pain levels, stool counts, fatigue, joint counts, and other condition-specific inputs
• Lab values — CRP, ESR, hematocrit, and weight when entered manually
• Biological sex and weight — used for clinical score computation (optional)
• Medications — name, dosage, frequency, and indication
• Appointments — doctor name, location, and notes

This data is never transmitted to any server. It is not used for advertising, marketing, or data mining.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you choose to connect Apple Health, Flare Journal may:

• Read: weight, daily steps, sleep hours, and resting heart rate
• Write: weight and symptom data (abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fatigue, body ache, headache, nausea, fever, mood changes)

HealthKit integration is entirely optional and requires your explicit permission. HealthKit data is never used for advertising, marketing, or shared with third parties. All HealthKit data processing occurs on your device.

Medical Disclaimer

Flare Journal is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Clinical scores are computed using published scoring indices and should be interpreted by your healthcare provider. Do not make treatment decisions based solely on this app.

Notifications

Flare Journal can send local notifications to remind you to log your daily scores. These notifications are generated entirely on your device and do not involve any external push notification service.

Data Export

You may choose to export your data as JSON or CSV (e.g. to share with your doctor). This is entirely at your discretion, and the exported data is shared only with the recipient you choose. The developer is never involved in this process.

Data Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time through Settings within the app, or by deleting the app from your device. Deletion is immediate and permanent. There are no backups on external servers.

Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device for as long as the app is installed and you choose to keep it. The developer does not retain any copy of your data at any time.

Children's Privacy

Flare Journal does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app may be used by minors under the supervision of a parent or guardian for tracking conditions such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Third-Party Services

Flare Journal does not integrate with any third-party services, analytics platforms, advertising networks, or cloud providers. The app contains no third-party code that collects or processes user data.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. Since the app collects no data externally, significant changes are unlikely.
